It's Time to Enroll In or Renew Your Health Care Coverage

2019 Open Enrollment Runs from November 1, 2018 to December 15, 2018

Now is the time to think about your health care needs for 2019. Just as your needs change, health plans change too. There are new plan options and new health coverage options being offered for 2019 so it is important to know what has changed and what you need to do during this year’s Open Enrollment.

There are also new rules for Virginia’s Medicaid program that may affect your 2019 Marketplace coverage! Beginning on January 1, 2019, Virginia’s Medicaid health insurance will have a new option for adults. This means that some adults who qualified for financial assistance to purchase a 2018 Marketplace plan may now qualify for full-benefit Medicaid coverage, such as single adults earning up to $16,754 a year. Many of these individuals have already received letters from the Marketplace asking them to update their accounts during Open Enrollment because, based on their last reported income, they may now qualify for the new Medicaid coverage. Do not ignore the letter. You can find more information for Marketplace enrollees newly eligible for Medicaid here and more about the new Medicaid coverage option for adults here.

What to do if you already have Marketplace coverage

If you already have a Marketplace account, make sure you can still access your account and, if needed, update your password. Go to www.healthcare.gov if you need to create or update your account.

Financial assistance is still available! 81% of Virginians who enrolled in coverage received financial assistance, which brought their average monthly health care bill down to $82 per month! What’s more, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that this financial help will remain available across Virginia to all those who qualify for it.
